Paris - Palais Garnier

Palais Garnier Palais Garnier
Connected by Paris metro Ligne 8! Two quite contrasting houses. Opera was first performed in Paris in 1821 at the Salle Le Peletier when Auber, Rossini, Meyerbeer and Halévy became the successive instigators of the 19th-century grand opera. This building, however, was burnt down in 1873. Charles Garnier, the architect, built the Palais Garnier, which finally opened in 1875. This became the Theatre National de Paris. In 1982, President Mitterand announced the building of a new opera house, which opened in the Marais district in 1990.
