Viva Verdi!

Terrific opera in Parma

SC - Dublin

Dear Mr Blair,

We are back home safely despite barely making our flight on Monday morning because of the appalling weather conditions and traffic on the Italian motorways.

The three operas were of an exceptionally high standard - principals, chorus, production and settings. I Due Foscari and Luisa Miller were new to us, Aida in the pocket theatre at Busseto was a revelation and the visits to Roncale and Verdi's villa were quite moving. All arrangements worked smoothly, the hotel was excellent and we had five days of good weather to boot.

The following comments are by no means intended as criticism:

- You provided details of each opera (cast list etc) - a short synopsis would be nice.

- Toilet facilities are extremely limited at all venues - forearmed is forewarned!

- The Church of San Francesco (Luisa Miller) is a huge building site with temporary seating (very hard and uncomfortable) on two levels. We were towards the rear of the lower tier and had no difficulty with sound or vision but people who were behind us, on the higher tier, told us that they could neither hear nor see and many did not return after the interval.

Hoping teh above are helpful
