Macberth in Berlin

M & E, London

Dear Andrew,

I thought you might like a bit of Feed Back from our recent visit to Berlin, vis:

Travel arrangements and document presentation:  straight forward and clear.

Hotel:  excellent position,  all staff very helpful,  room quiet which we much appreciated but beds and bedding rather thin.

Pelleas et Melisande:  not very good but it is rather a silly opera to start with although the music is nice.  Production and staging, awful.  Singers, second rate.  Orchestra good.  Seats (in third row) a bit too near the front, particularly if you need to read the sur-titles as I did.  We didn’t enjoy it but are pleased to have seen it.

Macbeth:   Sensational!  Wonderful music, brilliant production, Placido Domingo, Ekaterina Semenchuk and Fabio Sartori all wonderful.  Orchestra under Daniel Barenboim were fantastic.  There are not enough superlatives!  The curtain calls went on and on and on and, at one point, included the full orchestra lined up on the stage which is something we have never seen before.   One of the best, if not THE best opera experiences we have had and I do hope you have seen it yourself?

So, sincere thanks from us both for arranging another Opera in Style trip for us.

With best wishes,
