2020 Buxton International Festival

BUXTON OPERA FESTIVAL
03- 19 July 2020

Conductor Adrian Kelly joined the Festival in 2019 as Artistic Director having been the Music Director of the Salzburg State Theatre since 2017.

The 2020 programme is made up of four operas, one opera oratorio and a musical comedy. This includes five performances of Rossini’s La donna del lago, three of Handel’s Acis and Galatea, four of Hahn’s Ciboulette, one of Music Theatre Wales’ Violet and six performances of Sondheim’s A Little Light Music. BIF has commissioned Kate Whitley to create a new opera oratorio, Our Future – In Your Hands which explores one of the most defining issues of our time: how climate change is slowly destroying our creation.

The only company in the North to produce its own rare operas and have just won the Achievement in Opera Award at the 2019 UK Theatre Awards for Georgiana. In 2020, for the first time in its 40-year history, we will be producing a musical in collaboration with the Buxton Opera House.
