2018 Venice in Winter

2018 Venice in Winter
31 January - 04 February 2018

This 4-night/5-day escorted tour takes you into areas of Venice rarely visited by the groups of tourists which crowd around the main attractions. It also includes a number of visits to sights associated with composers such as Vivaldi, Monteverdi, Gabrieli, Stravinsky and Britten. There will be visits to two operas, one at La Fenice and one in a local palazzo*. We will also attend a concert* in a typical Venetian church.

Guided by Adrian Mourby, the renowned travel writer and novelist, we will also visit the historic backstreets of Castello, Cannaregio and San Marco, taking time to see the remarkable art work paintings by Titian, Tintoretto and Tiepolo in Venice's beautiful churches.

Adrian Mourby’s third novel “Wishdaughter” was partly set in Venice and he has been visiting the city for 30 years.  “Venice in winter is particularly beautiful. If you are lucky enough to be here when it snows, then you are particularly blessed. Venice, which is never noisy once you leave San Marco, falls completely silent as footsteps are muffled by the snow and the Baroque buildings of the city are enhanced by being rendered in gorgeous black and white”.

The tour will be based in the family run hotel Palazzo San’ Antonin, beautifully situated on a minor canal but only a ten-minute walk from San Marco.

*These two events are still subject to final confirmation.
