Dresden blossomed in the middle of the 18th century under the reign of the Saxon electors (kings) Augustus II "the Strong" and Augustus III. They built splendid architecture and amassed fabulous collections of objects d'art and works of art. Dresden became one of Europe's most artistic and cultural centres (known as the Florence of the Elbe). Amongst the most spectacular is the Zwinger: a magnificent Baroque complex, A superb porcelain collection and great works of art at the Old Mazsters Gallery. Of course, the music is legendary and the Semperoper exemplifies everything outstanding in the German operatic world. Of course, the Frauenkirche has just been finally, completed and we provide tickets to the 'new' Historic Green Vault restored to its original glory and displaying a veriatble treasure house of art, figurines, crystal and enamelled figurines.
